1. JEM directory of members

The listing of members of the JEM portal can be found by clicking on "Members" from the topbar navigation, next to the number of currently registered users, at the url http://jem-thematic.net/members. Because the portal provides most its information for anonymous access, visitors to the JEM pages are not required to register. We have noticed that registration occurs when it is associated to an event, for instance a speaker needs to upload the presentation to the website.

Until January 2009, the members' profile pages were accessible only to registered members. This has now been changed, after noticing that clicking a name on the directory list yielded an unfriendly error message. The policy adopted currently is that a registered user may decide to choose which information to withhold from anonymous browsing of his/her profile. In this way, the JEM profile page respect the privacy concern of those users who do not want to openly present their complete information.

At the same time, the profile pages have been redesigned to provide a quick look of the overall activity of a member in the JEM community. In the minimal case, the profile consists only of the contact information, displayed below the name entered during registration. For members that have contributed any publications, learning objects, or written a blog, these will be listed on the profile page thus also allowing to quickly navigate to one's own content. If a user has filled all profile information during or after the registration, unless he decides otherwise, this information is shown also.

There a a few ways to browse the online directory, for instance by institution. Each affiliation in the listing can be clicked to retrieve the list of profiles in which it was entered. Note that when registering, the affiliation field auto-completes by generating suggestions based on what has been previously entered. The same is true for the competences as described by the members. For instance, http://jem-thematic.net/en/profile/profile_competencies/mathematical+kno... lists 3 members who entered ''mathematical knowledge management'' as their expertise.

The directory can also be searched by lastname or firstname. The results will link to those members matching the query. More precisely, the search can use any keyword and will return a list of users in whose profile it appears, indicating in which field the match occurs. As example, http://jem-thematic.net/en/profilesearch/knowledge returns several matches of profiles in which the keyword ''knowledge'' appears in the short biography or in the competences.
