LOM Repository v2 - Features
Completing this step-by-step guide will result in a repository with the following features:
- new content type, called Learning Resource, with a customized input form
- support for multiple authors; by default three author fields are shown in the input form, to add more first submit the node and then edit it to see more author fields
- support for multiple entries in the fields defined by the IMS LOM schema; the fields that allow multiple values show as expanded dropdowns (except the keyword field where the multiple entries are separated by commas)
- views for viewing the Learning Resource nodes, sorting by title, author name and date
- RSS support enabled on all the three views, visit the Post Installation and Modification to learn how to remove the RSS support
- The header "quick links" ("Register and login to add your learning resource.") seen at the views on JEM site at for example the "sort by author" view are not included in the views which come attached to this guide, visit the Post Installation and Modification to see how to add these texts
- customized node view page with Show/Hide full record
- classification of the learning resources on basis of LivingTaxonomy for Mathematics
- exporting the Learning Resource in LOM XML format (IMS Learning Resource Meta-data Specification v1.3)
- real time download counter on basis of exports, available at the node view page
- terms in the vocabularies are linked to views which show all the records that contain the same values in the field
- author names are linked to user profiles if the author is a registered community member
- support of file attachments for the repository entries
Please note that some of the fields specified in the schema are missing, the fields were left out to fit the needs of the JEM project.
Demonstration: The JEM Learning Repository is built following these guidelines.
New Features from the v1 of the Learning Repository
- Support for importing LOM records in both IMS LOM v1.2 and IEEE LOM v1.0 formats, please read further (this is a separate module)
- Support for editing the imported IEEE v1.0 records
- DOM parser for generating the exported records, please note that the new version v2 of the repository requires PHP 5.1.x and above for the export to work correctly
- The system automatically detects the format of the record on export; records that were imported in IEEE LOM v1.0 can be exported only in the the same format
- If records are added manually, the records will automatically be generated for the IMS LOM v1.2 and can be exported only in that format
Optional Features
- support for MathML in the resource description, more on how to do this
- Support for faceted search, please read the instructions
- OAI PMH Dataprovider support, we have developed a OAI dataprovider module for the learning repository, for download and instructions please read the technical specification and notices about the release at the developers blog
